Missions
Our church participates in several missions activities. In June of 2008, a group of members will be traveling to Taiwan to work with the Village Gospel Missions organization.
This organization conducts bilingual summer camps throughout rural Taiwan. Our members will be partnering with VGM, acting as English instructors, as well as ministers of the Word.
These camps are designed to reach those in Taiwan who have not yet had the opportunity to recieve the wonderful news and gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mar 16:15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Two-Weeks Missions to Taiwan Letter
Dearest Family and Friends,
We are writing this letter to let you know that we believe God has called us to a two-week mission trip to Taiwan. Our mission lasts from July 5 to July 19. FPC sent out a mission team last year to Taiwan and we were all blessed in our fruitful interactions with the Taiwanese children and adults. During the trip, we not only taught English to the students along with sharing the love of Jesus with them, but we also were blessed with receiving the grace of our Lord and Savior. God has placed a desire on each of our hearts to continue spreading His love and saving message of the Gospel this summer.
We will spend two weeks teaching at a children’s English camp. These camps are part of the annual summer outreach program of “Village Gospel Mission,” which patiently plants churches in rural areas that have had limited exposure to the gospel. Only 2 percent of Taiwanese inhabitants profess to uphold Jesus Christ as their Savior, so we seek to continue reaching out to the unsaved. We hope to serve as God’s witnesses in loving and teaching the children and sharing the passion He has given us.
The VGM camp theme is “The best friend” and they would like to incorporate the idea that “Jesus is my best friend” by giving the rural students an image of how a real friend should act. With prayer and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we have chosen our mission theme, “Jesus is my best friend” and God gave us these theme verses because, as Jesus said, “The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them “ (John 15:13) and “I call you friends“ (John 15:15). Also, the Lord has commanded us thus, “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 13:47).
God has already shown us his faithfulness in many ways. Please pray for our safety, endurance and opportunities to demonstrate God’s love and truth. You may want to join with us in using the following evangelistic prayer for Taiwan:
Dear Heavenly Father, You are the mighty God, sovereign over the entire universe and all the nations. We thank you for creating the beautiful island of Formosa, where inhabitants are searching for truth and purpose. We pray that you would bless our homeland and the souls of the 23 million Taiwanese inhabitants. Soften their hearts and use us in spreading Your love and saving Gospel message. Give us strength, perseverance, and guidance as we share the gift of your Son with them. May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine upon us, that Your ways may be known on earth, Your saving power among all nations. (Psalm 67:1-2). Adopt Your chosen children in Jesus so they may dwell forever in Your kingdom. May our homeland become a promised land that longs to praise Your Name. May You be proclaimed among all the peoples so that they may accept the offer of living an eternity with You. Grant to many Taiwanese people, salvation, and eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ. Because he is the Way, the Truth and the everlasting Life, we pray in his name. Amen.
Our church has blessed us with a strong financial commitment. However, if you want to share in the financial costs of the trip (without affecting your regular church giving), then we’d be grateful to receive checks made out to FPC at the above address. Writing an email would also be a great way to encourage us and to let us know you are praying: potterjohnw@hotmail.com. We look forward to sharing what God reveals to us this summer.
Thanks and may God richly bless you,
