The Apostles’ Creed (contemporary)

   I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

   I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

   I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer (traditional): Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

 

The Ten Commandments (Ex. 20:1-17) God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 1. You shall have no other gods before me. 2. You shall not make for yourself an idol. 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. 4. Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. 5. Honor your father and your mother.6. You shall not murder. 7. You shall not commit adultery. 8. You shall not steal. 9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.      10. You shall not covet what is your neighbor’s.”

 

Brief FPC Mission Statement:                   At Formosan Presbyterian Church, we believe our ultimate life purpose is to glorify and enjoy God forever. The Lord our God is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

   By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are a community of believers seeking to love and worship our Heavenly Father as we follow God's Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Relying on God's grace in Christ, we rejoice at having been set free from our sins to love our neighbor as ourselves and to share with all people the hope and comfort of the good news of Jesus.

   We want all of our worship, giving, teaching, fellowship and mission to be marked by obedience to God's Word, joyful celebration of the Christian sacraments of baptism and communion, and submission to the life-transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

   We summarize the core of our Christian belief in the evangelical, orthodox tradition: Having been justified by GRACE alone through FAITH alone because of CHRIST alone, we joyfully live for the GLORY OF GOD alone, directed in our belief and behavior by the authority of SCRIPTURE alone, which is the Word of God.

2008 English Ministry Goals include:

   Continue promoting intergenerational spiritual conversations at FPC. (e.g. evangelism vision)

   Continue improving communication, teamwork and compassion among church officers.

   Developing movie nights and other ways to improve college/young career fellowship.

   Improving connection with PCUSA and Presbytery resources.

   Improving EM website and other office tasks with intern or other helpers.

   Outreach: Further develop Table Tennis Ministry and send Summer Mission Team(s).

8/17/08 Ministry Opportunities and Prayer Concerns:

Welcome to our visitors! Everyone is invited next door for $2 lunch fellowship with the Taiwanese side after this service. Childcare is available.

Guest Speaker: Thank you, Rev. Njaba for today’s preaching in God’s word.

Retreats:  

1)       Many thanks to Gui’s tireless overall coordination and planning, Monica and Gary’s Retreat booklets, planning, loving care and all the preparation.

Thanks to all the youth councils’ coordination of the ride and program.

2)       Many thanks to the Van drivers: Gui/Maria/Fernando’s dad-John Yang, Monica/Justin/Joshua’s dad-Jeff. 

3)       Many thanks to Caroline and Deacon Shu-lang Yang’s participation as parents’ attendees.

4)       Many thanks to all the young adult drivers, leading the small groups

5)       Praise to the Lord for the main speaker- Jon Li for the enriched and clear messages.

         6)      Most of all, thanks to Jesus Christ’s grace, Holy Spirit’s guidance, all the prayer of    

                  pastor and members, and all of EM’s participation!

          Without all the loving, caring, prayers of all the above, the Retreat would not have
          been as successful and fruitful. Thanks to all!

2008 FPC High School Graduation Banquet for I.J. Chang, David Chiu, Jason Eng, Wilson Hung and Maria Yang was held on 8/15 (Friday), 6:30pm at FPC.  Thanks to Monica’s hosting and Anna’s co-hosting. Thanks to Rev. Chen, elders, BOD’s chairperson, and parents’ participation and celebrate together. May God richly bless all the Graduates.  

Soup Friday Movie night for young Career and college will be on 8/29 (Friday) 7:00pm at the

FPC Sanctuary. Baby sitting will be provided.  Please invite your friends to come.

Session announced that FPC will have Joint worship service on September 7th to celebrate and welcome our new Rev. and Mrs. Michael Chen with their 2 children---Micah (4,) and Michelle (2.) Please invite your relatives and friends to join us in this celebration.

Children Ministry--Thanks to Estela Voon for her hard work in coordinating and directing this Ministry. Please invite those with children to join us at 10:15 am every Sunday for Children’s Church.

FPC 2008 Elder/Deacon/officers Nomination Committee decided that the nomination form will be distributed to all the members from 8/3 and the deadline is 8/17 (today). Please pray for God to prepare all members’ hearts to be ready to serve FPC and the Lord’s kingdom. 

FPC Taiwan Mission Team will present at 8/24 worship service.
