1. About the join in the camp

Does your team enjoy the VGM camps these one or two weeks in Taiwan?

All the members of the FPC STM team said that they enjoyed the camps in Guogou and Dongshih very much and thought that it was spiritually rewarding and brought them closer to God.  They believe that they got more out of the camp than they gave to the kids.

2. About transportation problems

We're sorry for not giving details for transportation. Actually, there is about 10 VGM churches, and we didn't know how to arrive each of one even we are Taiwanese people.

So, in order to help the STM teams next year for not feeling so troublesome to arrange the transportation, please list how your team got to the 1st week VGM church, and how your team leaved the 2nd week VGM church this year in details.

Hint:
a. If your team rent a car, please list the car company name, phone number, price, and time cost.

b. If your team went by bus, train, etc.., please also list the price and time cost.

c. If your team was helped by Taiwan team or VGM church pastor for transportation, please also list.

FPC of Houston Texas used the same transportation company that we used in 2007 VGM trip.

Taiwan Car Rental Co. LTD (Attention Vicky Lin) Phone (02)2796-5668 Extension 201 see below:

E-mail                              Name                         Phone Number

Cost of Transportation:

From:   Airport    to    Guogou Gospel Center    $8,700 NT    (19 Passenger Bus)

From:   DongShih  Church     to    Taipei          $11,000 NT    (20 Passenger Bus) to also give Taiwan Co-workers a ride to Taipei

Elder Jeff Chang made some calls to get the addresses for the churches to arrange the transportation.

I would suggest for the future, upon assignment of the camp to the STM team, that the following be provided to the STM team leader so that it would be easy for the STM team leader to make arrangements for transportation to the Church/Gospel center.  This information is very important for STM team leaders, particular those that have never been to a VGM camp before, this will also allow the  STM team leader to provide the parents of the youth on the team important contact information about their children and their location.

1. Village name and School name

2. Pastor's name

3. Church/Gospel Center address

4. Church/Gospel Center Phone number

5. Church/Gospel Center Email address

6. Taiwan Co-worker/Camp leader's name, phone number and Email address.

3. About programs preparation and present

Do you (also your team members) have any problems to understand how the VGM camp actually work?

3-a Do you have any problems preparing the programs as follows?

D1-D4 Sing & Play

D2 Theme Song Teaching (including song skit)

D2 Skit: Rick and His Four Friends

            D3 Station Games

D3 Skit: No-Friend Fred

D4 STM Q&A Time

3-b And how is the program actually run in the camp?

3-c Any suggestions for the programs design?

We didn't have any problems with the camp or the materials.  We didn't have a bi-lingual camp, we had a "Talent and Character Camp"  so we didn't do the D3 station games and the 60 Minutes theme song teaching was also deleted from our champ and replaced with arts and crafts but the Taiwan leader for both camps wanted the Theme song teaching so the STM did this in three 20 minutes secessions on D1, D2, and D3.  We also did the Theme Song Teaching at the end of the Skits on D2 and D3.  We also added movements for each Vocabulary word "Loves, Helps, Trusts, Gives, Cares, and Endures" and we had a sign for each vocabulary word with Chinese translation.  The kids really liked the movements.

Our "Sing and Play" songs and movements were from our Vacation Bible School that we just finished in June 2008, just before the VGM, so they all had a Gospel message with movements which seemed to be better than children songs without a Gospel Message.

4. About cooperation with Taiwan team leader and coworkers.

4-a Do you think the Taiwan team leader can handle the team? Do you have any problems to communicate or work with him or her?

4-b Do your team members have any problems to work with Taiwan co-workers in the small group?

4-c Any suggestions for life in the camp (living, food, time arrangement, etc...)

1st week team

4a.  Allen, Taiwan team leader, was very good and ran the camp very well in a relaxed manner.  The whole team (Taiwan co-workers and the STM) responded very well in a professional manner making the kids in the camp their priority.  The kids really like all the teachers and had fun. Communication between the Taiwan leader and the STM was very good and their were no problems.

4b.  Communication and team work between the STM and Taiwan co-workers in the small groups was outstanding.

4c. Everything went smooth and well.

2nd week team

4a.  Max, Taiwan team leader, was very good and ran the camp very well in a strict manner.

4c.  Morning worship/devotion should be limited to only 30 minutes instead of 50 minutes and breakfast should be 45-50 minutes instead of 30 minutes so everyone(27) can eat, wash their own dishes, clean the eating area and get ready to go to school..

Overall conclusion and suggestion

1.  In a talent and character camp the STM could help out in the talent/craft area more by assigning a STM member along with a Taiwan co-worker to teach each craft/talent, i.e., balloons, clay, musical, paper animals, etc.

2.  The STM did not  really have anything to do in the small group in our camp because our camp was not a Bi-lingual English camp, it was a Talent and Character camp.  The only value of the STM team member being in the small group in this camp would be to play with the kids after the lesson was completed if there was time between activities.  The Taiwan co-worker would have to be  given instructions to allow this to happen because some teachers try to control the kids in an orderly way and not allow the kids to play.  Kids like to play with STM team members which is good as long as they are not destructive or out of control.

3.  Morning worship/Bible devotion should be limited to 30 minutes (not 50 minutes as it was in Dongshih camp) to have more time for breakfast (see item 4).  Our STM members really enjoyed doing the devotion between 2 to 3 people instead of larger groups or between STM and Taiwan co-workers. Because of the language barrier between Taiwan co-workers and STM a more thorough and deep discussion of the scripture passages would not be as productive or possible.

4.  Breakfast should be at least  45-50 minutes to allow 27 people to eat, wash their dishes, clean the eating area and get ready to depart for school/camp. 30 minutes for breakfast is just not enough time and everyone is  so rushed and disorganized.

5.  Taiwan camp leaders should be instructed to schedule at least 30 to 45 minutes every evening for the STM team.  This would allow time for their preparations and any thing they need to do to get ready for the next days activities (making props, practicing skits, etc).  I don't know about other STM teams schedules but they are probably like ours. With our members, some in colleges out of town not finished until 15 June,  High School students preparing for final exams until 1 week in June, training and practicing for and participating in Vacation Bible School  (2nd week of June) doesn't leave much time to prepare for the VGM camp materials so some time is needed for that preparation in camp.  If a "Talent and Character Camp" will continue in future camps then this time can be scheduled during small group times as the STM will not have any thing to do in the small group because it best that the Taiwan co-workers do the small activities/Gospel stories due to the language barrier.

5. About the 2009 VGM bilingual camps

5-a Any ideas for next year VGM bilingual camps design? (Activities, teaching materials, etc...)

5-b Does your church consider joining the 2009 VGM bilingual camp?

5-c Any other comments and suggestions?

5-a.  One area that needs to be considered is to move the "Sing and Play" or the "D2 and D3 Skits" to different  times.  The "Sing and Play" is very tiring and hot for the STM because of movements in the hot conditions of the auditorium and the STM team needs a break for water and rest before they participate in another activity.  This years "Sing and Play" and the Skits were back to back and the STM didn't have any break between them and it really made it very difficult on the STM.  The "D2 and D3 skits"  and "Sing and Play could be reversed on the Schedule and this would be better on the STM.

5-b.  All our team members are recommending to Formosan Presbyterian Church in Greater Houston to send a team in 2009.  They have also said that they would like to participate again and express a desire to do Junior High School camps next time as they have done 3 Elementary Schools the past 2 years.....Glory be to God

6. Please remind your team members to write about 800 to 1000 words article for the journey in Taiwan, and send them to the VGM coworker who in charge contact your team.
